Trompe L'oeil Girl

Beloved Infidels

Get ready for a blast from the past with The Beloved Infidels and their album Trompe L'oeil Girl. The Beloved Infidels credit 1960’s pop as one of their main influences, and from the opening chords of “Suzanne” and straight through the closing lyrics of “Bigger Than Life” that is the exact tone that this album delivers. It’s the kind of music that has simple melodies that are easy on the ears and perfect for the beach. I could easily see myself lying out in the sun, with a glass of ice tea, earbuds firmly planted, and tracks like “Hey Romeo” or “She’s Too Good For You” spinning away. Vocally, The Beloved Infidels sound a bit reminiscent of Blondie, yet with a slight touch of Lesley Gore. The music itself is pop verging on proto-rock. While tracks like “Suzanne” feature poppy island-like vibes, others are bit raw in nature and deliver a sound that is more organic rather than overproduced. The end result is an easy-listening experience that will draw you in with its unique hooks. Trompe L'oeil Girl doesn’t feature the type of music that’s played on the radio today. So if you’re looking for the next Nickelback or Lady GaGa, then look elsewhere, but if you’re looking for a neo-retro summer fling, then give The Beloved Infidels and their Trompe L'oeil Girl a shot.
